But Gwadar port is an exception. It is a warm water, deep sea port allowing very large and heavily loaded ships to embark directly on the port. Pakistan’s biggest gain from Gwadar port is CPEC. Currently, all the ships and cargos that have to reach China, pass from a very long water-route. But once Gwadar port will be functional, China will transfer all imports from Gwadar port to its territory via CPEC- a route consisting of highways, railways and pipelines that will connect Gwadar port to Xinjiang in China. The CPEC is crucial for China's 'One Belt,One Road' initiative that aims to connect China to Europe and Asia. The corridor is designed to give China a shorter, more secure trading route, via Pakistan, to the Middle East and beyond, while also boosting Pakistan’s economy.
